What made you choose Avignon as your wedding dress?

"My Avignon was itself a dream come true. All I knew was that I wanted a dress with a low back with the addition of lace sleeves. My second boutique visit took my mother and I to A’mour Bridal in Kloof. Having gotten engaged in Paris, France the name A’mour felt like ‘a sort of divine destiny!’ Assisted by the lovely boutique assistant Amy, our hour appointment ran away with us and we tried dress after dress - and all three truly emersed in the sheer joy of finding ‘THE ONE.’ When Amy presented our Avignon, the bridal butterflies were instantaneously unlocked. Avignon was absolutely exquisite and all three of us knew there and then that ‘she was the one.'"

Tell us your love story!

"Andrew and I were blessed to have known one another for many years. A story of an incredible friendship and respect ultimately blossoming into a kindled romance just a few years back. This manifested into a fairy tale ride culminating in a surprise engagement in Paris, France on the iconic Trocadero steps with the Eiffel Tower glittering in the background. Ten months later, and the most surreal wedding we could have ever visualised was realised with 140 family and friends gathered to celebrate and witness our special union."

What was the most memorable moment of your special day?

Bride: "We were blessed with the most incredible wedding day. Everything about it was what we had hoped for and more. While it is difficult to choose just one, my favourite moment was walking down the aisle and seeing Andrew waiting for me at the other end. I have attended countless weddings and always looked to the groom for his expression as his bride approached. And this time, this wedding I was the bride with the love of my life waiting for me. Andrew’s expression as I came into view will stay with me forever. I felt all the love he has for me, in that moment, just in a single gaze."

Groom: "Sitting as a newly married couple at the main bridal table of the wedding reception, while listening to the speeches and toasts that were prepared by the speakers; being surrounded by much loved family and friends in the gala room… what a wedding day memory. Just seeing the smiles on the faces on all the guests, and everyone taking the special moments in, is an experience that will never be forgotten."

Advice to other brides?

"Stay true to your vision for your wedding. You will be inundated with advice and unless you remain focused on what you both want and do not want, your ideas will get lost in the chaos of everyone else’s opinions. If you have no idea what dress style you want, go to your very first appointment alone like I did. Try on every style from fitted to ballgown so that you alone decide what you like and what you don’t like. Once you have the style decided, you can bring loved ones into your appointments for support, encouragement and fun memory making. Choose your ‘tribe’ well. Unexpected things will happen on your wedding day no matter how well you plan or prepare – just remember to have a few pause moments with your spouse and take in the atmosphere. We did that a few times during our special day. And we advise others to do that too. Make sure your bridesmaids and bridal party / MC are the right people to have by your side in times of joy and also in times where problems need solving; while you remain calm in the bridal room having a cup of tea!"

"Actively ensure that there is an appreciated and respectful chemistry in place with every service provider and the bridal couple. The more time and effort you put into engaging with those who have tasks to perform, the more invested they are in ensuring that your special day is a success. It is the small but poignant gestures such as making sure they have their needs met as well that strengthens the bonds between you and them. The more effort that goes into the planning and the sharing of the written plan, the more the bridal couple can relax and take in their once-in-a-lifetime special day together. And after the big day, don’t forget to thank those hands who helped make the event a success – from the waiter to the driver, from the cleaner to the musician. Everyone counts in large amounts."
